Adrian Pucey (born c. 19771979) was a pure-blood wizard who likely began attending Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1989 or 1990. He was a member of Slytherin house and was a Chaser on the Slytherin Quidditch team.

Biography

Adrian Pucey began attending Hogwarts on 1 September, likely 1989 or 1990, and was Sorted into Slytherin House. He made it onto the Slytherin Quidditch team and played the role of Chaser.

Adrian was on the Slytherin Quidditch team in Harry Potter's first year up to and including his fifth year (except for the third year, when Marcus Flint, Cassius Warrington, and Graham Montague were said to be the three Chasers).

Personality and traits

Adrian suffers from Asperger's Syndrome, an Autism like neurological illness, which makes it very hard for him to interact socially, interpret body language, and communicate. He takes everything very literally and sees no areas of grey between black and white. There is only good or bad, in all senses.

He is very intelligent, but mostly so in connection with his interests: Dark Arts, Fencing, and Broom flying. His strong obsession with The Dark Arts has made him proficient in nearly all curses and hexes, but his magic strength is still not fully developed yet; his spells are, therefore, in the end, not a real threat to an experienced wizard... yet.

Adrian likes to inflict pain and revels in taking control over others via the Impero curse. But he would never touch anyone physically to inflict that pain, as he also normally avoids physical contact. He prefers using his wand to curse and hex his victims. Adrian has no qualms whatsoever in using the Unforgivables.

Adrian has, on the other hand, a very low tolerance towards pain inflicted on himself. He always loved playing Quidditch, but feared the bludgers to a degree that he sometimes chose to flee from a potential score, just to avoid getting hit.

He feels most at ease in darkness, surrounded by silence, and is very uncomfortable around other people. Loud noises (other than the screams of his victims) make him retreat either physically or mentally if bodily escape is impossible.

He holds a very personal grudge against the Weasleys, especially the twins, since they, in his mind, have made him the butt of countless pranks and the receiving end of very hard bludgers sent by the beaters of the Gryffindor team. This could be traced back to his inability to take anything less than literally. If he could lay a hand on a Weasley, there is no telling what the consequences would be.

Adrian has his routines, and they keep him safe. upset those routines, and he will instantly withdraw to recreate the sense of safety. The length of withdrawal from the real world depends on the magnitude of the disruption.

Appearance

Adrian is 1.80 m. tall, has dark brown unruly hair and brown eyes. He often looks like he isn’t quite paying attention and has a tendency to avoid full eye contact. He is muscular from his days as a chaser. He still flies his broom, preferably alone. He swims and fences to keep in shape. He mostly wears dark colours and avoids anything brightly coloured.

Magical abilities and skills

  • Flying: Adrian was notable for being one of the few Slytherin Quidditch players who were not seen to commit a foul or otherwise cheat, despite being on the Quidditch team for at least three years.
  • Duelling: Adrian never occupies a front‑stage role in the wizarding war, but the brief flashes he receives as a senior Slytherin and a member of Dolores Umbridge’s Inquisitorial Squad, Pucey is repeatedly singled out for his “skillful” spellwork, when the squad demonstrates its authority, Pucey steps forward and, with a flick of his wand, disarms the prefects in a clean Expelliarmus that leaves even the over‑confident Draco Malfoy momentarily speechless. His execution is described as “swift and precise,” a hallmark of a practitioner who has trained his reflexes beyond the classroom curriculum. The very fact that Umbridge places Pucey in the squad—an elite group tasked with policing the school—signals a level of competence that goes beyond mere loyalty to the regime. The Inquisitorial Squad members are not just political enforcers; they are expected to uphold the Ministry’s standards of magical proficiency, and duelling is the most visible test of that. Pucey’s performance in the squad’s compulsory duelling drills is later referenced in Harry Potter and the Half‑Blood Prince when his name appears on a list of students who have “proved themselves in the Dark Arts” during a clandestine training session overseen by the Death Eaters. Here, his duelling prowess is implicitly acknowledged by Voldemort’s inner circle, suggesting that his talents were deemed useful for the darker side of spellcraft.
  • Dark Arts: Adrian was one of the twelve Death Eaters summoned to testify before the Wizengamot. Pucey’s very presence at the trial indicates a level of trust from Voldemort that few ordinary followers enjoy. He is later seen among the cadre of Death Eaters who infiltrate the Ministry of Magic on the night of the Department of Mysteries’ battle when he attempts, alongside Mulciber, to breach the protective enchantments surrounding the trio’s hiding place at Shell Cottage.
  • Potions: Adrian was indeed skilful enough in Potions to earn his teachers' trust. Pucey is seen taking notes during the first Potions lesson, a mundane detail that nevertheless reinforces his status as a diligent student. He is also present when Professor Snape, the master of Potions, observes the Inquisitorial Squad’s “inspection” of the classroom—an implicit endorsement of their competence.

Possessions

  • Dress robes: He is seen standing beside the Slytherin table during the Triwizard Tournament’s Yule Ball, implying he owned at least one decent ballroom‑appropriate pair of shoes and perhaps a spare set of formal robes—an unspoken requirement for any student attending the event.
  • Prefect badge: Adrian owned a Slytherin Prefect badge, which he gained after becoming a Prefect in 1995. Beyond the basics, Pucey’s role as a prefect suggests he possessed a few items of authority: a prefect badge (the small silver pin bearing the Hogwarts crest) and a set of keys granting him limited access to dormitory and faculty rooms.
  • Notebook: Pucey had a leather-bound notebook for recording house points.
  • Crest: Pucey had a distinctive silver Slytherin crest embroidered on his blazer.
